Password Req'd. for Unzip

Howdy. I formatted this computer & reinstalled XP Home Ed. last spring & it runs OK except for a few minor issues which I'll ask about separately. The issue I'd like some help with now is that, since I reinstalled XP & try to extract a .zip file, the extract box appears but it requires a pasword & this stops me cold. The only way I can get out of this is to reboot into safe mode & repeat the procedure.

After I download the program/or S/W I use the right mouse button & select 'extract all' as I always have. I have an administrator account, FWIW; is there a more convenient work-around than using safe mode or does anyone know the massword this box is looking for? Thanks.

Only thing I can think of is that the zipped files are password protected. You would need to ask whoever zipped them for it.

Other possibility is that the program you're using needs to be registered. I would suggest http://www.7-zip.org/

Not sure if either of those would solve your problem, but that's all I can think of right now.

Is it any zip file, or a specific one?

Apparently any .zip file will cause this condition although I've only tried two & they both do this. One is the Host.zip file from MVPS.org; I download it to the desktop & then unzip it to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC per their instructions & always get the unzip dialog box that requires a password except in safe mode. I use the the unzip program included with XP, incidentally. TIA
