I am about to lose my mind.
I have a gateway 504GR system and I needed to replace the motherboard. I bought an ASUS Mobo and a 1gb stick. I made the swap and went to install XP PRO. When its time to use the product key, it gives me an errror saying that its invalid. Its not invalid because its on the sticker that came with the CD. I tried other CDs with their serial numbers and I get the same thing. Has anyone seen this issue before ![]() I have doing this for years and never ran into such a problem before |

I also ran diagnostics on all the hardware, including memory and they all check out fine.

What version is your XP Pro disk? If you're using a Retail disk and using the Gateway oem key, they won't play together nice. You need an OEM XP Pro disk. And you're best off with one that includes SP2.

I am using the Product key that came with the XP Pro, retail. I am not using the OEM from gateway because I know that software is no longer useful since I replaced the motherboard. I am assuming now that someone has switched the sticker on the cd or it belongs to another CD that I longer have in my posession. This why I now write all serial numbers on all my software and log them and save them in my email |

If you actually bought it, and it's not accepting the product key, then give microsoft a call.
