Windows 2000 and the DP35DP

I was wondering if I could use Windows 2000 on my Intel DP35DP. I did look on the Intel site and they did not list Windows 2000 in their OS for their downloads for the motherboard. In fact, I think I may have read that Windows 2000 is not supported.

But does that really mean it won't work? I know my motherboard has onboard internet and when I install the motherboard drivers and get to the desktop after installing XP I have immediate internet access. Perhaps I simply won't have internet right away? Maybe I could install a separate ethernet card?

I also install the chipset drivers and something called Intel Pro Management Interface.

It would be nice knowing I could still use Windows 2000 if I wished in the future cuz that is one damn good operating system.

No, Windows 2000 is not supported with that chipset at all. Sorry. The last chipset that had Windows 2000 support was the P965. I had to upgrade to XP when I bought an Asus P5K Pro board. You can set everything in XP to "classic" and you will hardly notice a difference. I feel your pain, but it's time to give it up.

Don't get me wrong. I'm pretty happy with XP. It's solid and reliable and runs smooth and I can use the classic Windows 2000 interface. But I also loved Windows 2000. That was great. And the best part is there is no stupid product activation.

Keep 2000 around for older chipsets. I'm still using it on this box (845E chipset).

I found one place that had an Intel D965LT. Not too many of these left around. I assume this motherboard could run either Windows 2000 or XP. I should almost pick it up.

Yes, the DP965LT has Win2K drivers available.

I think I've mentioned this before - Intel branded boards are not as solid as they used to be and I've switched to Asus. We started having some serious issues with Intel boards when they switched to Socket 775 (915 series chipsets and newer). The only real winner they have had since is the D975XBX.
