SVCHOST.exe is Corrupt
My PC first started to get really slow about 2 weeks ago then I was unable to load a web site, IE won’t open.
Now When Windows XP first boots up we get an the following error message, svchost.exe is corrupt then another screen keeps popping up with 0x00000000, that screen appears at least 7 times before I am able to log into the PC. When I do finally get into windows I try to double click on IE it flashes open then closes down so I cannot assess a web page. I rebooted into safe mode with networking and still unable to launch IE. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Last edited by Bear123; 08-18-2008 at 09:15 AM. |

You may have a really bad spyware infestation. Reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows would probably solve the problem. But perhaps others will post less drastic solutions that may work as well.

Yea I know but that was sort of what I was trying to avoid, hehe. I think you are correct about the bad spyware, we put one on and it made things worse, it was shortly after that when IE stopped opening.

Do what you need to do to download and install Malwarebytes and run it.

I tried to install malwarebytes but the windows service was not started I couldn't enable it. I went into Safemode and tired to enable this but i was not able to start or stop any services (the service would not open into a new window). I thought about reformatting then realized I was also unable to copy from the hardrive to a USB, there was no error message, but it would not copy. I could however copy from one location on the PC to another location but I could not burn it onto a CD either.
Do you think putting the OS repair CD in and running that would help? |

Remove the drive and connect it to another PC using a USB adapter and scan it.
