Crash

I installed a new power supply in my homebuilt computer ; AMD Athlon xp 3000,Biostar M7VIG mobo,WD 80 gig HD,pc3200 DDR memory., When I tried to reboot it , it crashed! I have been trying to fix it for 3 days now with no luck. I changed the hard drive and when I try toinstall Windows XP I get the following message: FILE \ i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded Error code 7,set up cannot continue. Anyone have any idea what I can do next?

Thanks ronin, but no luck on the problem! I changed 5 memory sticks and I did get Windows screen to come up but all it did was run for ten minutes with out loading. I put the BIOS back to Optimum settings but that didn't work either . I think my BIOS is screwed up ! I ordered a new MOBO which should arrive tomorrow , after I install it I'll let you know the result.

Back to the beginning, WHY did you replace the power supply? What was happening that necessitated the replacement? Did you change anything else before that?

I replaced the power supply because the cooling fan quit. The system was working fine other than that.

You said you reset your bios back to optimum. Does that mean you were oc'ing originally? Did your try to install XP with the system oc'd? Did you test the memory modules you tried using with Memtest86+? Are you using a true XP disk or a copy?

Thanks for the reply ,Panama. I wasn't oc'ing ,the memory modules are OK, and I was using an original XP disk. But I just gave up on the Biostar mobo and installed my new one, Which is working fine so far except when I installed XP it missed the sound drivers so I've got no sound. My XP disk has a slight scratch on it so I'm borrowing one tomorrow to reinstall XP.

If it's on board sound, just go to the motherboard manufacturers website and download the sound drivers.

It's not on board, I think it is in Windows. It's called "Multimedia audio controller"

What is your new motherboard?

Do you have a seperate sound card?

In order for hardware to work, it needs a driver of some type. Windows will usually install a generic driver, but most can be found from the manufacturers website. That is what I suggest you try.

If not, then you can try a repair install of windows instead of a reinstall.

That is onboard sound. The drivers need to be installed from either the motherboard support CD or from a download from the motherboard manufacturer. XP will *NOT* have the drivers included.

My new motherboard is a FIC KT-748 , it didn't come with a CD , as it was a sale item from Geeks.com.I went to the FIC website but they don't seem to have any downloads for my board.
