How to view different language websites.

So I'm trying to setup a computer for my dad to use so he can read the news on Chinese websites. All of the Chinese words are showing up as ?????'s. My question is, what do I need to do to be able to view it in Chinese?

If you are using IE7, View, Encoding, Auto Select.

I'm using FireFox. I tried the Auto-Select option in IE6 and it still doesn't not work. It just shows random symbols.

In Firefox, try view, character encoding - play with the options in there.

I've messed with the options and nothing works. Works on my Vista machine but not on the XP. Do I need a language pack of some sort?

I just ran a test.

Site: http://chinese.aol.com

Win2K box - does NOT work with Opera, Firefox, or IE6.

XP box - DOES work with IE7, Firefox, and Opera. I do not recall installing any language packs. XP is SP3 with all updates.

Conclusion: Install SP3, all updates, and IE7 - and go from there.
