Admin - Screw XP

I just got done formatting my sisters computer (HP Pavilion a705w) and installing XP SP2. I went to HPs website and downloaded both the audio and graphics drivers....however, upon install it said that I needed admin priveleges. No big problem I thought....I went and changed how users log on and the proceeded to log on as admin...gave the account a password and then relogged on. It still refuses to allow me to install the drivers....I have tried running as admin and everything I can think of....and now I'm stuck.

Does anyone have any ideas? I couldnt even install them in safemode as admin.....its getting to be damn frustrating.

You should be using the HP recovery media set, not a generic XP. If the recovery partition is still there, you can use that.

Why even bother putting drivers online if you cant use them? I can understand updated drivers but not original.

I didnt realize HP computers were so finicky and deleted the recovery partition to gain the extra space (thinking I would just install XP and go to HPs website to get drivers).

Im assuming my only choice now is to call up HP and fork over the cash for some recovery discs? Unless there is a good free partition recovery program that I can try.

Most of the HP and Compaq desktops use the VIA/SIS chipset for Video and most of those use the KM range of drivers.
If you can identify the video chip on the motherboard you can download the drivers from thedriverguide or the mobo manufacturer(if you can identify it).

You should have created a recovery set before deleting the recovery partition. I think you can buy a set for about 20 bucks.

Word to the wise - always do a little research before messing with name brand computers, especially those that do not come with any kind of reinstall media.

If I go to HPs website they have video/audio drivers when I look up the compy....I just cant install them because of the problems I was having in the first post.

Sweet, Intels site had video drivers for the 845gv chipset and realtek had drivers for AC'97 audio.....I'll just put those on a disc in case she needs formatting again.
