Desktop Icon Fix
XP pro
I've got all kinds of ram & hd space on my 3 yr old Dell, yet I am constantly trying to find the best set up to keep system from bogging down with multiple apps running. Nothing seems to work for very long. Be that as it may: Most recent setup was to let system decide how to allocate resources. Had my desktop set as I wanted, with icon size, spacing & text. After things again began moving in slow motion, I reset to allocate resources to programs. My whole desktop changed. Got everything back to what I had except for the text labels under the dekstop icons. The text is showin in a box with the original desktop color in the background. It used to be just text in black on the desktop picture. Nothing I do gets rid of the rectangular colored box. I've adjusted many of the check boxes in adjusting visual settings in the Systems file through the control panal, but no effect. Any suggestion on who to get rid of that annoying colored box around my desktop text? Thanks. |

Steps for making Icon Text Transparent.
1. Click on Start 1. Choose Control Panel 2. Click on System Icon 3. Choose the "Advanced" tab, click "Settings" under "Performance" 4. Under the "Visual Effects" tab check "Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels". |

what about making the "background" color go away. I had the background for the icons on my desktop transparent the other day and did something (forgot what it was) and now I have color behind the icons and its absolutley driving me nutts. I can change the background color and all that but there is no option under the color choices for "none"

Display Properties -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web: Make sure the "Lock desktop items" is unchecked.

it is, I heard somewhere that having web content on your desktop could be the problem? any validity to that?
