Windows validation

Just did some major work on my computer and reinstalled Windows XP , Home. When I tried to validate it they tell me the product key is unauthorized. It the original cd that came with my machine but I changed the MOBO due to my BIOS being screwed up , so I guess they think I'm trying to put it in a new computer. So I guess I'm screwed!

The same thing happened to me kanun.
I replaced the HD on an XP machine and used the original recovery disk set from Compaq to reinstall the OS...XP Pro. I have used this same set of disks on this original machine before and it worked fine.
When I tried to install SP3, I got a message that the Windows version was invalid and now I have this little star thing in the notification area that says "My computer may be at risk".

This was back in May and nothing's happened yet??? Everything is still working fine.

Go figure.

Paul

Sounds like you will have to call MS up and explain the situation. They should be able to help you out.

When the activation fails, you should get a screen stating you need to call MS and activate XP over the phone I've done it numerous times during upgrades, there should be a fairly long number on the activation screen MS will need then you answer a few questions then your done.

I validated it last night over the phone and after going through those ridiculous numbers with the robot, I finally got a confirmation. When I turned it on the box this morning I got the the message " 24 days left to activate Win XP ". So back to the robot again and through the number routine and finally it actually activated.

There seems to be rash of false negatives concerning activation. I got a little nasty gram that said my Vista 32 was invalid...after an update. I had to reenter the activation code. The way they phrase it makes it sound like you have a pirated illegal copy though!
