Windows XP disk scratched
My XP Pro disk has some slight scratches on it . I used it before and it loaded without any problems but when I try now it hangs up on several files and when I'm almost finished I get the blue screen with a bad file message. Is there any way to remove scratches on a CD ? They are very slight and not deep.

I have used the toothpaste method with success. Otherwise, there are some products like the "SkipDoctor" that claim to work.
On a side note, you can use another XP disc for installations as long as you use your unique key.

Here is a page that details that and other methods: http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Scratched-CD
Looks like SkipDoctors are available at a lot of places according to this: http://www.digitalinnovations.com/retailers.php Good luck! |

I have also had good luck with PlastX. That's a plastic polish that you can find at auto parts stores, it's made by Meguiars.

This is what I use, works like a dream.
http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazin...0201/novus.htm You can find it at any marine store where boat products are sold. Last edited by Chesapeake Dan; 08-30-2008 at 09:02 PM. |
