Diskeeper Lite is taking forever...

I just installed Diskeeper Lite and started using it for the first time. It's been a while since I used Windows XP defragger. The status bar has been stuck on 12% for over an hour.
Is this normal? Does it usually take longer than the one for windows?

It depends on the size of the / spreed of the cpu etc...I'd let it keep going for a while AND not use the pc while it's running.

If you haven't defragged in a month or more, this *will* take a while. I usually run something like this overnight.

So Diskeeper is much more thorough than the Windows defragger? It's been over 3 hours and it's still stuck on 12%.

It would take less than an hour to defrag normally with Windows (specs in my sig). I can run it overnight but I just want to make sure this is normal.

diskeeper tends to do a better job and is usually faster.

Course, it's not normal to have it stuck in one spot for 3 hours either...

Close the app, reboot, and try starting it up again. Then, don't touch it (don't play games, don't browse the web, don't check email, etc. All that stuff reads/writes data from the drive and takes up resources.)

take a look at the hard disk activity led and see id it is almost on all the time with a slight amount of blinking, I had the same thoughts as you when I run it, but let it set there and it will go through with its testing,
if the hd led is not blinking at a very fast rate, then it may be stuck, I don't think it is.
I think that display on the percentage really depends on how large the hd is.
on my 160 gig drive I took amlost over 4 hrs to complete, on a 40 gig drive it was done in less than two hrs.
if you have some bad sectors, it will look like it is stuck.
