change default file sorting

By default on my windows XP system the files and folders are arranged by name in descending order. I hate descending order and I have to manually change it when I go into a new folder.

I have it set up in folder options to remember the the folder's view settings so the problem is fixed when I open the folder back up but it is annoying because I have to change the name to ascending order in each folder.

Is there an option to change somewhere that will make the default go to ascending order? This is a recently new system so I haven't changed many options on it.
