Windows home server

Hello all
I just got my windows home server setup. ( LOVE IT ) just one thing , is there a way to streem my music to another computer thats online outside my network. I can download and upload but I would like to stream it just to hear it and not have to deal with storying it on the host system......

Thanks

I'm not sure what you're trying to do exactly but here's what I've done with my WHS. I configured the Server so it is now in the same Workgroup as all the machines it backs up. I have another pc in the garage that is also in the same workgroup but does not have the Home Server console installed. I can access My Music stored in the Public folder on WHS with this garage pc. The speaker connection on my sound card connects to an old amp/tuner with 4 speakers attached; 2 in the garage and 2 on the back deck.

Nice
The possibilities are endless with a WHS. I’m just getting use to how all my music ,photos ,data are all the same on ever system thru the shared folders. What I’m trying to do is you know how when you connect to the server away from home. I want to play the music without having to download it first. Another words just stream the music. Is that possible……

That's essentially what I'm doing with mine. The music files are all stored on the Server. You just access them from any other pc on the network including those that connect remotely.

PR, he is asking how to stream from it across the Internet, not just over the LAN.

I don't think you can do that with what comes with WHS. You need streaming server software, which is very similar to running a Web server, which is something I cautioned you about before you bought this thing.

Thanks GLC & Panama Red
The only reason why I ask is because I know the home servers from HP advertize it has this feature. I believe it streams with something called media center. ( automatically installed in all Vista systems )
Understood GLC I conceder myself warned about having a web server as they are hard to not only manage but keep secure , The thing I like about Home Server , it makes things so easy to setup….

Thanks for the link Panama Red
