Add and remove programs
Hi Gang
If you have items in your add and remove area that are there in name only no values or remove properties how do you get rid of them. I know they are just there is name only but I think if they are there at all they need to go if I no longer want then there. If nothing else to clean it up some, and actually be looking at things you want there. Any help appreciated....Gunny

I'm not understanding quite what your question is.
Are you saying you can't find certain programs on the add/remove list? If so, they may have their own uninstallers, with shortcuts under the start > programs menu. Or, are you saying that programs on the add/remove list still appear on the list even after you uninstalled them?

A couple ways you might try.....the first one's easier.
1)Try using CCleaner. Start it, click on Tools on the left side, find the entry in the list that you want to delete, then right click on it and select delete. You can try left clicking on it first and using the Uninstall button, but if there's nothing left of that program except the entry, there won't BE an installer for it to run, so likely the right click/delete option would be the best bet. Or, if that doesn't work.....are you comfortable with playing in the registry? If so.... 2)Microsoft explains how in this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

Hi Gang
In answer to force flows question. An example I had a Roxio program on my computer some time ago, I got tired of it and wanted to remove it, I went to add and remove in the control panel and did that. It went through the process and I thought it would remove it like normal, but I guess it half removed it but it left the names of the Roxio programs in the left hand column but nothing in the right hand side, no remove, no values. They are there in name only. I have since found pieces of Roxio still floating around on my computer, that I have problems with and have to find out how to get rid of them. Just yesterday as a matter of fact. Why it did not remove all traces of it, like the many times I have done this I don't know. Juppy I will give your suggestion a go and see what I can find there. My thought is I would not find it there because it really is not on my computer as a removable program because it really isn't a program any more. Thanx....Gunny |

Hi Juppy
I am comfortable with messing with the registry, no problem. After I tried CCleaner and got these two little boxes, Now what.? I had this problem before doing some thing in the registry, cannot find this regedit32. It is some thing that should be there and why it isn't there, bugs me. Thanx....Gunny |

Hi gang
Sorry part of my reply is missing. The two little boxes I said are not there, these are it. (Cannot delete MSI installer) and ( an installation package cannot be found for the product Roxio Easy Archive) And when I go to the registry it comes back with this (Windows cannot find regedit32) Thanx...Gunny |

Hi Gunny
The reason you're getting that "windows cannot find regedit32" message is because you're putting the letter "i" in there. It's just "regedt32".....no I in there. You can type "regedit" *with* the I, and leave the 32 off of the end and it'll take you to the registry too. One other thing you might try before messing with the registry though.....do you still have the program that causes the problem (such as that version of Roxio you mentioned)? If so, you might try re-installing it, then going through the deletion process again. Sometimes an uninstaller will just miss some things and by putting it back on the machine and taking it off again, it will sometimes do it right the second time around. Worth a shot if you've still got the offending program. |
