made DVD master and HDD slave (dumb idea) and its normal thing is to sit at mobo logo for a minute then flip over to screen that says press F1 and I do and then it loads.
Also, it wont go to SETUP by pressing DEL |

The F1 screen should give you an idea of what's failing to load...

Did you set it back up for the HD to be Master and the burner as Slave? (or set them to CS?) Also try disconnecting the burner, leaving the HD as Master or CS.

I was referring to your comment here:
Usually, the screen will say XXX Failed to load - press F1 to continue. We need to know what XXX is. |

First, I disconnected the dvd drive, no go. Then I left dvd unplugged and switched cable connection on hard drive- same exact result, it just hangs at mobo logo.
Im wondering if my hard drive failed. |

Can you get into the bios settings? If so, see if the drives are detected.

Disconnect BOTH drives and see if you can get into the bios. If you can't, the drives are okay, something else has failed.

Reseat everything. You may have knocked a cable loose or disturbed the ram while playing inside there.

They had a couple sticks of 1G Kingston, the brand I'm using for about $70. Don't really know if it is compatible, might just get cash back and order from Newegg.
I did find my Mobo driver disk from Asus. Might just nuke the HDD. I can't load songs to my cell phone which would really help my running cuz my license isnt valid and it wont let me use Windows Media Player. But some of the drivers I downloaded came zipped and I got confused on how to burn them to disk, as a zipped app or after zip and if after, which files do I burn, there are many.... EDIT: Oh, and to fix my HDD being slaved to Disk drive, all I have to do is switch the cables? This ribbon is awkward, the distance from the two drives is very short and I didn't think I could put the one on HDD first, very tight fit. RE EDIT: Would 4GB of RAM be much more better than 2 GB? Can my system handle 4 GB? Here, Newegg's configurator says this will work with my system for same price as the HDD. My system does slow up with Second Life and Firefox going on at same time and Open Office Writer is always very slow. Hmmm, one reviewer says it showed up as single channel RAM on his system and another says only 2.75 GB of RAM shows. Last edited by TimPoet; 10-07-2008 at 04:43 AM. Reason: Forgot something and question on RAM |

You *can* put 4gb in, but it's only going to use around 3gb. If you are running 1gb now, I'd just go with 2gb.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 Either move the drives around in the case or get a longer cable - the hard drive needs to be on the end connector and the optical needs to be on the middle. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812104050 I'd recommend you spend the 90 bucks for a legal copy of XP. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116511 You can just burn the zip file - XP has a built in unzipper. |
