XP screen takes forever
I had a very good computer with two 160G Seagate HDD's. The first HDD was partitioned into three sections. Windows XP SP2 was installed on Drive D. ( I don't know how that happened)
The computer got so slow that I thought I would just move everything I wanted to save to the other HDD which was empty. I Booted up with the Windows XP CD and everything went ok and it put everything on partition C wahich was OK. It had been so long since I had done this I forgot about running the HDD CD with the drivers on it. After a few days of going nuts I downloaded the drivers and everything looked Ok. Now I can't seem to get past the Windows XP screen (the one with the blue dots on it) It will get past it after about 15 to 20 minutes. Can anyone help me get past that screen faster? Thanks for your help.......Gary EDIT: I built the computer myself about 3 years ago. It has a Biostar motherboard P4TGT and a Gig of ram. I wanted to add I cannot get my sound to work even after I went to Biostar site and downloaded drivers. The driver was dated 2002. |

I would put everything you need to save on one of the drives then DISCONNECT it. Then I would wipe the other drive and reinstall Windows from scratch. Get a fresh start, and be mindful and careful of how you use partitions.

I put everything I wanted to save on HDD "H". Windows XP Home was on partition "D" of another HDD. Both HDD's are 160G. Seagates. I installed windows on the HDD that had it on partition D but it came up on partion C. I don't see any sign of it on D.
Do you think I should do an over the top install. (repair install?) It is taking 10 to 15 min for the XP screen to go away. What is it searching for? There are two 160 gig HDD both are Seagates. Last edited by Garyfl; 10-20-2008 at 08:02 PM. |

I think you should save all data you want to drive H, then disconnect it and WIPE the other drive (removing ALL partitions), and start over. If you MUST partition the drive, install XP in the FIRST partition.

I did a reinstall and wiped out the two partitions and it solved the problem. I forgot to unplug the H drive I hope I did not wipe it out.
Thanks much.......Gary |
