System password recovery

I'm trying help a friend with a Dell notebook (Vostro Notebook 1000).

It has a system password that comes up immediately after the post screen. He swears the password is "hugs" but it doesn't work. 3 tries and you get a "System Disabled [07443]" message.

Anybody know of a fix or maybe a freeware program that'll recover this puppy?

Thx

I apologize, but our forum rules do not permit discussion on how to get around passwords. The only thing that we can say (because it's common knowledge) is find out how to clear the CMOS. This is usually done with a jumper or by removing the CMOS battery.
