Problem to install .NET framework in offline PC
Hi,
I want to install a program called Staxrip (a video converter) and among the requirement it needs .Net Framework 3.5. Since I want to install it in an offline PC I went for the full redistributable setup of .Net 3.5 but for my surprise I found that this package isn't so full since during the setup it ask for download a package of 67MB ![]() Any idea how to install this update being totally offline? I've Win XP SP2 + .Net Framework 1.1 & 2.0 The same problem is reported here I already tried uninstalling previous version of framework before go with v3.5 butthe problem persist. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Is that .NET 3.5 or .NET 3.5 SP1? The instructions say you need the latest OS service pack and all critical updates too.

Thanks for reply, it's .NET 3.5 (197MB), and it came out before XP SP3, anyway although I didn't install SP3 I've updated the OS (individual patches) till september of 2008 before try to install .NET 3.5.

Well, I tried it, after connect that pc to internet I run the setup and it ask me to connect to crl.microsoft.com and go.microsoft.com so I allowed it and then svchost.exe it ask to connect to i.imdb.com (72.246.31.67) I allowed it too and then it start to download the 63Mb package, what was strange it's that after a couple of minutes the progress bar reached the 63MB but the downloading continued for another 45 minutes at a rate of 120kbps (I really don't know what the hell was downloading but it was far more big than the .NET 3.5 itself), then after the setup show "download complete" the installation began so I leave it installing, I return after half hour and for my surprise not only the installation didn't finished but the pc waa frozen. I had to reboot manually.
I really don't know what the hell happened, could you tell me if it's normal that the setup remain downloading for so much time, and do you have any idea what could be downloading from i.imdb.com? Why every updating process should be ALWAYS so painful, uggly and suspicious at time to deal with microsoft programs? |

I think you need to scan that computer for malware. There is absolutely no reason for it to want anything from the Internet movie database.

Really strange, mainly considering that this connection by svchost to imdb was by request of the .NET setup, I mean, if I had no given permission to svchost to access internet the setup shouldn't continue, in fact I allowed svchost after the .NET setup failed 4/5 attempts to download the 63MB package, after I allowed the connection the progress bar of the setup began to show the download progress. |
