Wndows Error Tone on Rebooting to Desktop, but No Message
I'm running XP MC and every time I boot to my desktop, I hear the Windows error tone/alarm (the single tone that usually accompanies the pop up error with a red X) but there is no message or popup. It always happens after all other programs are loaded on startup.
I selected Diagnostic Startup from msconfig to see what would happen. There was no eror tone after startup, but I was immediately prompted to "reactivate Windows" because of all the "hardware changes" that were made to my system "recently", which is not true. ![]() I can't figure out which of the services I have running that causes the error tone, but it makes it harder to determine the cause of it when there is no message. ![]() Is there something I should look for in Event Viewer? Thanks in advance

Nevermind.
The Windows XP Critical Stop.wav sound was happening on reboot because I had Windows Service Pack Installer update service disabled in the sevices tab. I always leave automatic updates turned off so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it. |
