NTLDR Error

I am trying to help someone.
They have told me when trying to reinstall XP on their Emachine pc, they get the error
"NTLDR Compressed" and it just keeps looping .
I have been researching and sent him what I thought were some viable solutions
But he says nothing is working.
He is using the system restore discs and tell me he cannot restore or reinstall
the operating system.

I told him to try this..............

Try this...................
http://www.fixya.com/support/t230780-ntldr_compressed

But he says there is no option to go to the prompt I guess.
Looking for a prod in the right direction.
Thanks,
Dick

I assume there is no data on that hard drive that your friend is interested in saving at this point. He can try downloading the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utilities from their website and use these utilities to do a zero fill of that hard drive. That will wipe the hard drive completely, including the mbr. Then try reinstalling with the restore disks. A corrupted mbr can cause installation issues with windows and doing a zero fill wipe can fix that if it is a problem.
