Unhappy random restarting by windows 2000

I hope someone can help me this. I am new to Windows 2000 and have just installed it on a new PC. I have updated to the latest service pack. My Problem is that after shutdowning my PC before going to bed i find it is back on in the morning. I have then shut it down again only to find it on again after a hour or two(?). I have tried many things and have scoured the net for a clue to this . I have tried many different things in the power options but no luck.
I want to be able to shutdown so all is off by the 'shutdown' in start and not press any buttons after (don't think my PC button can do that.

If anyone has any clues i am willing to try anything!

Here is some info:
P4-1.7Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte ga-8itxr this has Lan(not used)
O/S : windows 2000 5.00.2195 service pack 2
First event log on random reboot: 'Microsoft (R) Windows 2000 (R) 5.0 2195 Service Pack 2 Uniprocessor Free.

Strangely, i was away for 4 days and it didn't start up but it did it again after the first time i used it on return. What i did before leaving was disable any 'live updates' and the lan port. It seemed to work but then....
Can't think of anything else but let me know what you need.

In power management in the bios did you set Wake on lan - to disable and also there is a setting for the modem to start the computer if a call comes in -
more does your place have signifcant power fluctuations ? then also make sure that power to last state is disabled and Resume Power on Power failure - this actually should do it..

Smile thanks Hpro!

That seems to have done it!

Thanks for your help
Funny how the retailer says " Oh yes, you have to change your bios" only after i had told him that i had help from a person on the net.

Thanks again
