Windows Messenger Help
Okay I decided I do not want Windows Messenger running in the background sucking up resources. I never use it. I don't need it. I don't want it.
So I opened it up and unchecked the box next to Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts. I also unchecked the box next to Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background. But I noticed tonight that when I opened Outlook Express to check my email the green Windows Messenger icon appeared in the system tray. When I exited out of Outlook Express the icon was gone again. So is this normal? Like it's supposed to appear when you check your email? And then disappear when you exit? |

In OE:
Tools -> Options -> General Uncheck "automatically log on to Windows Messenger". |

It didn't work. Even after I unchecked that box the Messenger icon still loads in the System Tray. But I did find a way to wipe it out.

For those of you that want a definite solution:
1. Click on Start/Run. 2. In the Run Dialog Box type gpedit.msc and then press Enter. 3. In the right pane double-click on Computer Configuration. 4. Double-click on Administrative Templates. 5. Double-click on Windows Components. 6. Double-click on Windows Messenger. 7. Double-click on Do not allow Windows Messenger to run. 8. In the Setting tab click on Enabled. 9. Click on Apply or OK. |
