Hi gang
Well her goes another of those tough problems to explain and probably to solve, but here goes nothing. I have XP home, SP3, Yahoo mail, and use IE 7 browser. Now I can be doing any thing, e-mailing,, browsing, etc and my cursor freezes, changes to an hour glass, and there is a little white square that pops up in the top left hand corner, and if you put the cursor on it, the cursor changes back to a pointer and gives you the choice of closing it, (what ever is on the computer). If I don't do anything, that hour glass will stay like that forever, never go back to what it was doing, just stays a hour glass until I do some thing, like go up to that little white square or CTRL, ALT, DELETE. Then I have to reclick on my IE icon to start things all over again. Then when that opens up again I get a little box asking if I want to resume, or start a new session. I know this is hard to explain, buy hopefully some one can make heads or tails of this, and have an idea of what is causing this. I have deleted IE7 and reinstalled it, and the same for my Yahoo toolbar, etc. Thanx....Gunny

Try cleaning out the dust bunnies. Then run memtest and hard drive diagnostics.

That little white box that pops up makes me wonder if you've got some malware on your machine. Have you done the usual scans (Malwarebytes, Spybot, Antivirus, etc)?

Bucksfan---Sorry no cobwebs in this machine and I have done all the normal things one would do to get rid of this or correct it. I have done the mem tests, and the HD diag. Nothing shows up. It is some thing that pops up unexpectedly at times, not like every time I do a particular thing. I know it would possibly be easier to find if it was me doing a particular thing.
Thanx....Gunny |

Hi Juppy---- I have run a couple of the malware things I have they did not show up any thing either. That was my first idea, some bug got me. But the more it happens and the more I think about it, I really don't think it is a bug. Some thing is triggering it like. Nothing I can put my finger on. It is very annoying, cause if I am in the middle of doing some thing I loose that and have to start all over again. If I was to say one thing that happens, it seems to be when I cancel out on of my tabs, or come back to my mail from looking at some thing on the Internet. But I can do that a bunch of times and it don't happen too, so that is why I know this is very difficult to explain and of course fix.
Thanx....Gunny |

Jeez, I don't know then. I went Googling and the only other thing I can find that references a white box in the top left corner has to do with people that have an ATI video card and they're using the Catalyst Control Center. Apparently a certain version of that will put a small box up there, but it doesn't say anything about it causing the hourglass to appear or messing up your ability to use other programs. The fix for that problem is disabling the CCC system tray icon, but I doubt that's what you've got going on here.

Hi Juppy
Ya I googled it too, I usually do that first, and if that does not show any promise, I start looking at the problems here, and if that fails to show up anything, as a last resort I post my problem. And I did with this problem because it is such a hard one to explain it, even putting it in to Google I tried I don't know how many ways. So I will try deleting that CCC for now and see what that does. I was having problems with my resolution at one time, with the same card, so it is a possibility. Any thing is possible with such a goofy problem. All my googling never did come up with any thing about the little white box in the upper left hand corner. Thanx....Gunny |
