MS SQL ERRORLOG file
When I got on my computer tonight, I found I had 0 free space on the hard drive. I did a disc clean up and deleted some programs to gain some space back.
Upon checking the files on the HD, I found the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG" has a size of 28,668,830 KB, which would just about explain the complete loss of free space. A couple of questions about this: 1. Can I safely delete this file? 2. How can this file grow so large, so fast? Thanks, Dave |

Well, I didn't find out why the file was so large, but was able to get rid of the crazy large ERRORLOG. There are 7 ERRORLOG files, ERRORLOG, ERRORLOG1, ERRORLOG2,....ERRORLOG6.
Each time SQL Service is stopped and restarted, a new ERRORLOG is created, ERRORLOG is renamed ERRORLOG1, etc and ERRORLOG6 is deleted. I just stopped and restarted SQL Service 7 times and the crazy large ERRORLOG file is deleted and now have half of my HD back. Last edited by dave1rr; 12-30-2008 at 10:28 PM. |
