windows xp boot

Happy New Year! I have a pc running xp pro that upon start up will cycle thru bios go to the windows startup (black screen with xp) then reboot again and again. I've tried to boot to the last good configuration with no luck. It's been awhile since I've worked on pc and I am more than a little rusty. Any help appreciated

Thanks,

Paul

Boot it in safe mode, control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery - UNcheck automatically restart. Then it should bluescreen instead of reboot and you can read the bluescreen for clues.

You may have a failing hard drive. I'd run manufacturer's diagnostics on it from a boot CD.
