XP Remote Desktop ?
Here is my set up.
Desktop runs XP Pro and is connected to internal network via cable. Laptop runs XP Pro and is connected to internal network via wireless. I have two shared folders on the desktop that I can get to using my laptop. I am the only user on both computers so I only have one log on and do not have to enter a user name or password when booting up the computers. I use a Linksys router and run Zone Alarm on both computers. I would like to use the desktop remotely, from my laptop. Stuff like checking e-mail, using Quicken, etc. I do not plan on connecting remotely from outside of my network. I have been looking at both XP remote desktop and Logmein software. Which would be best for my situation? Thanks

Logmein is not necessary, because that will use the Internet. I'd use one of the versions of VNC because remote desktop requires passwords on the user accounts.

glc,
I'm assuming VNC is virtual network computing but what software is VNC? OK, just found the VNC website and I am reading through it. Looks like what I need. With this software and my setup, wireless to router, SSID not broadcast, WAP2 security, is this type of setup secure enough for using Quicken? Thanks Last edited by SmokeytheBear; 01-11-2009 at 06:17 PM. |

It should be. VNC uses both a server and a client, just put a strong password on the server.
