After OS repair, cannot boot into XP
Hey all,
My computer was working perfectly fine today, and then I decided to put in the XP Pro SP2 OS disc into my computer, boot the computer from this disc and run an XP "repair installation" (I was trying to actually find a way to do something with partitions and so for some reason I thought it might be under the repair installation choice). Before I could really do anything, the OS starting moving files and copying items etc. for a few minutes (there was no chance to cancel this operation from what I could see and it looked harmless enough) at which point it asked me to reboot my computer. When I booted it up again, before it entered into the XP welcome screen, it did a CHKDSK check with took about 20 minutes and then it rebooted again. The same dialog comes up to do the CHKDSK scan so I pressed a key to abort. I then got the message that the Windows disc scan has been aborted. I waited for a little while, expecting the computer to now boot into XP, but nothing happened. The screen just hangs at this point and I have no choice but to power down the computer by holding down the power key. I turned the computer on again and the same thing happened -- a message telling me that the CHKDSK disc scan has been canceled after I pressed a key to abort it. So I booted it up again and took out the OS disc out during the BIOS screen in a vain attempt to get rid of the CHKDSK scan message altogether, and to continue onto Windows. Again, the screen just hangs forcing me to power down the computer. Basically, I cannot get into the OS anymore and was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions? Thanks
