shut down now

In windows 98, I was able to enter a command line on the desktop to "shutdown windows now"...thus avoiding having to go to the start menu to shut down.
I don't see an option for a command line when you right click the desktop in XP.
Is there a way to make a desktop shortcut to shut down?

You can download "shutdown.exe" here: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shutcut.php

Or use this: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,156438,00.asp

Start, programs, accessories, command prompt. Drag it out to the desktop with the RIGHT mouse button, drop, copy here. This will give you access to a command prompt from the desktop. You could also drag it down to the quick launch so it only takes 1 click.

thanks
in the article on the pcmag site it says "In the Target box, append the command line switch -l (to log off), -s (to shut down), or -r (to reboot)."

when I right click the icon for the shortcut, and choose properties, I see a "target box" that has "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe" in it...is this what thew article is talking about?
how do I "append it"?
does this mean to add the switch to this line or does it mean something else?
