Going From Vista To XP

I bought a Dell XPS M1530. I would like to install XP if possible. Vista is just too buggy and slow. The system is fine and I'm sure it will be awesome with XP. I just need to know if there is a utility out there to check to see if all my applications, drivers, etc will be compatible with XP?

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0Ghz
RAM: 4 GB DDR2
Video: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Once I get my desktop built I will mainly use it for multimedia applications like Windows Media Player, Divx, VLC, etc. The Windows Experience Rating thing is a 4.1.

Do you recommend downgrading to XP or keep it as is? If I don't downgrade than can I get some tweaks to better the performance?

I don't know when I will finally build the desktop that I need since I don't have one right now that works but I will as soon as I can.

Need to check Dell's web site and make sure you can get XP drivers.

I'd imagine that any app that runs on Vista will run on XP. You can always check the makers web site.

After you format the drive, just install the other apps....

with a computer with the hardware to give a rating of 4.1 Vista should not be slow at all. Both my PC's generate a simlar score and Vista is lightning on them. Speed issues were addressed with SP1. I really don't understand why somebody would buy a new PC and then want to downgrade to an 8 year old operating system. Vista works just fine. If your system is slow and buggy you probably have software/malware issues that need to be addressed.

I don't consider going from Vista to XP to be a downgrade.
I checked Dell's site and they do NOT list any XP drivers for your laptop model.

Its mainly slow while watching videos with Windows Media Player. It's also slow loading thumbnails and saving downloaded files.

Also use msconfig to stop startup programs.

Check out blackviper for services too.

My dad's laptop had that problem and this fixed it for him.

I also told him to use jetaudio instead of wmp for dvd's. They seemed to play better that way.

At least one member here has also said that with vista basic their performance wasn't good, but it improved when they went to home premium.
