Windows Update --- over and over!

I have had 7 straight completed downloads of the most recent Critical update from windows (Microsoft xml core services 4.0 service pack 2). It installs OK, no errors, and then within a few minutes, is set uo to download again. I am not getting any errors...Everytime I look, the little gold shield is sitting in the task bar by the clock, waiting to be installed again.

Any ideas?

Do a custom instead of an express, and uncheck it. It should then allow you to tell it not to notify you about that one again.

Hi --- That closed the "gold shield" in the task bar, but 30 seconds later, it popped in there again. On the Windows Update "history" page, it shows it was dwnloaded successfully 7 times, but it keeps showing as "available to me" as a critical update...

Go to Windows Update, do a custom, and try to hide it that way.

Tried it --- same thing. The little shield is waiting again in the taskbar and on the option to shut down the computer. Whe I go to Win Update page and choose custom, it is there again, as if I hadn't downloaded it. But the History now shows I successfully downloaded it 9 times, UGH!

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430).

I requested help from the Microsoft help site for Windows Updates, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I will post what they tell me if you don't come up with something better.

Thanks for all the help...

Great! I will try this as soon as I get home from work and let you know...Just thought of 1 more question...If I already have SP3 for Windows XP Pro, should I even be gettind this SP2 update, or is this a different "SP"?

That did the trick. After I followed the directions in the link, the "shield" was deleted from the taskbar and the "shutdown" button, and when I went to Windows update, the message was that there are "no critical updates for me at this time".

Thank you, as always....
