PC will sometimes not boot.

Hello. I have rebuilt my system (see sig).. I have had more issues this time than with other builds in the past. My main problem right now is that sometimes upon reboot (or coming out of hibernation) the boot will get stuck. It goes through POST, but stops right afterwards, leaving me with a blinking cursor in the top-left corner of the screen. I'm not sure what information you may need to help you solve this problem, so I'll let you ask me for it.

Thanks ahead.

By "rebuilt" I take it you mean physically?
Go back over your power connections to the harddrives and DVD drive, if you have moved or swapped them around you may be using one that you haven't used before and it's possibly dirty and not giving a good electrical contact. I have seen this with SATA power connectors on several occasions.

Basically, everything is new except the 200GB IDE hard drive. The WD (system drive) is new. This is the first time I'm booting off of an SATA drive. I'll check the connectors, pull them out and reseat them.

One side note: When I got done putting it together, it wouldn't boot at all. I then went in and told the BIOS that I had a plug-n-play OS, which fixed it. Several days ago, it wouldn't boot again. I went in and something had changed it to it not being a plug-n-play OS. I changed it again. This time, it was still in there correctly.

Make sure your bios and drivers are up to date.

Flashed the bios late last week... it's weird that ASUS offers so many ways to flash your bios... almost makes you wonder if you're doing it the wrong way. Not sure what drivers I may need to update. The bios update would include the latest SATA drivers, right?

Try removing the non OS harddrive and one stick of RAM temporarily to see if that has any affect.
I think this is going to be a bit of a "suck it and see" situation, swapping parts in and out to see if you can identify the culprit.

Is it possible for the non-system IDE hd to be interfering with the SATA system drive? Also, can I use only one stick of DDR2 ram?

Without being actually hands on to see the setup for myself it is difficult to say BUT from experince I would have to say 'yes' to both questions.
