can xp 32-bit support more than 2g ram?
Here's my build:
EVGA 680i SLI mobo OCZ 700watt PSU BFG 8800 gts oc 2g corsair ram 150g raptor Intel 3.0ghz duo core Ive read on the forum that ppl are using 4g of ram on xp 32-bit. however when i tried it, windows only accounted for 2.75g of ram. I also got errors, for the simplest apps, saying that RAM was full. bios however, did see the full 4g. Is there a setting I can change that will allow windows to utilize the full 4g? Or am I finally going to upgrade to vista 64? thx in advance |

32bit XP will see anywhere from 2.75 to 3.25GB when 4GB is installed. The only way to see all 4GB is to use a 64bit OS. We recommend people use 4GB of RAM even with a 32bit OS just because RAM is so inexpensive right now. And from what I've read even though a lower amount is displayed, the operating system is using everything that it can, so its not wasting the extra.

I agree. RAM is cheap!
But, what about the pop-up windows saying that RAM is full, for the simplest apps? (eg. Windows Sound Recorder, after only a couple of seconds of recording) |

I got 2X2GB of RAM on a 32Bit OS (also shows as 2.75 in My Computer) and also got some errors. The timings for the RAM are 5-5-5-15 but my MOBO saw them at 6-6-6-something. I set the timings in the Bios to 5-5-5-15 and the errors stopped.

Should be on the package your memory came with, or if you open your case, it should be on a sticker on the modules themselves. I use Corsair XMS2 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz memory and the timings are 5-5-5-18, but I run it at 5-5-5-15. BTW, in XP 32-bit and Vista 32-bit, mine shows up as 3.5GB.
