Email in Outlook and Outlook express

Have a friend who has a peer to peer network setup w/ 4 computers running Outlook Express for email, also logging in remotely with a Vista laptop running Outlook.....why do the emails sometimes come in to all computers and show up and other times come in to the Outlook machine and not the Outlook express machine? Is this a factor of where she opens them?
