scanreg/restore
In win98, I used to used the command prompt:
scanreg/ restore to restore my registry to a previous version. is there a command like this n XP? and is scanreg/ restore the correct way to enter this command, I haven't done this in awhile and I think it's right but unsure....? |

In xp, using system restore will do that. When you select a restore point, the registry is restored to the state of the restore point you select.

thanks, but again, this article is for editting the registry from within windows.
when I would run scanreg /restore (in windows98) I would press f8 while booting. from here a command prompt option would be available pre-windows. scanreg /restore would open a command prompt dialogue for restoring the registry to a previous date. |

Dan I think you mean DOS prompt not command prompt and I'm not aware of anything like that in XP unless you boot from a cd that has those tools on them. I could be wrong and hopefully another member/guest will have a better answer for you.

XP isn't DOS based, Dan, so those old 98/ME commands don't work with XP. Other than the Command Prompt from within XP or using the Recovery Console prior to booting, I agree with usnretired, no dos options.
