Help !!!!!!
I have never had this happen before. Running Win 2000 2nd ed. for many years.
Decided to run the install CD for my Microsoft keyboard. Install went OK untill it asked for my win 2000 disc. I put it in and as far as I know everything was ok. It asked if I wanted to reg the keyboard and I said no. It closed and my keyboard works great,I have used it for 3yrs, The reason for the install is I wanted to program the hot keys. OK now here is the problem. Somehow It knocked out AVG & Firefox 7.5 +some other small apps Message was the files have been moved + kernell not found. WHAT THE HELL!!!! Need help bad. I do not want to poke around and realy screw up things. Thanks for any help stay safe doug |

Ooops...My bad for misreading
![]() Have you attempted to make new shortcuts for the apps that don't work? You can use Win Explorer and drill down to the Program Files folder->AVG and right click on AVG's exe file and send to desktop. |

No blue screen. Pop up win message box. "Files not found" "Files moved or missing" Also just found out my Start link will not open.
Also when I went to control in add and remove programs to remove a program It shows there but when I try to remove a program so I can reinstall. It gives me the message that the files are moved or missing. At this point I do not know how many programs are screwed up. I find more every day.I did reinstall Java but it does not work. I will never again put a windows disc in a old hard drive(3 yrs) that has many programs. I think it screwed the whole drive up. What a waste of time !!!!! On one message it did say somthing about a kernel. Sorry I did not write it down because it has not said any more about a kernel. Thanks again |

When you popped in the Win cd, approx how long did it run and do things? 30 seconds or closer to 30 minutes?
If you look in Windows Explorer do you see more then one folder that starts out with WINDOWS? Maybe see a second folder called Windows.000? Last edited by EzyStvy; 01-29-2009 at 08:52 AM. |

I have a feeling Windows is trashed and it might be time to consider a fresh install. It almost sounds like you did an over the top install which created a new registry and kiiled all of your applications.

No way did I do a over the top install. I had the disc in for less than 3 min. I have installed Windoz in 5 computers.
All it asked if Iwanted to regester the Keyboard. I do not want to trash this drive I have 3 yrs info and programs. I think some how the kernel is blocked. Is there any way I can check? Thanks for all your posts doug |

My start menue works now . As far as I can see most of the explorer programs are there. It is programs like Ifanvew.AVG, AND MORE THAT DO NOT OPEN. win says files have been moved or missing.
Why do you think explorer came back. I can get into control & system now. |

Download and reinstall Service Pack 4, then go to Windows Update and get all critical updates. Then uninstall and reinstall anything that still does not work.
