User Accounts file download security error
Problem with User Accounts in Control Panel
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem is that when I go into User Accounts and click on anything, a user name or a desired change option, I get a File download Security warning pop up window like the one i have attached 01-mainpage.jpg. At first I thought it was file association for the cpl file but I tried the cpl_file_assoc.reg fix and nothing was accomplished that way. I can get right into User Accounts using Run nusmgr.cpl . Once in there any choice I make results in the same popups. I tried to get help on another forum but noone could help me. I am wondering what is failing to open mainpage and why is this a file download security warning popup. If I click on Change password or change picture or add account I get similar popups. The only difference is the name would be ChangePage or createpage, etcetera. I ran malwarebytes several times including safe mode and it was clean. Ran Superantispyware several times and found some stuff and removed it Last edited by tacoeater; 02-02-2009 at 03:47 PM. Reason: removed a sentence |

Repair Install Questions
i had thought of doing a repair install but had wondered if newer files actually keep/utilize some undesired settings in some other information file of some sort which would still be in effect (the old copy) when windows boots for the first time.
no? |

I'm a bit usure what you're asking.
It seems like this is a registry problem, at least, that would be my first guess. You could try a system restore to a date where everything was working. |

mainpage
THANKS SHADOW,
the problem is probably a left over of some type of modification the antivirus2009 or other malware made to the system to associate itself with the cpl file type. the mainpage which won't open in the illustration i sent i think is a htm file. i had used malwarebytes and superantispyware and every thing cleaned up and the computer runs well except that in control panel user accounts the modify choices all come up with this evil file download thing. li presumed that since many files had been removed that restore would fail. oh well. and most important i used atfcleaner and disabled system restore to help prevent lurking stuff from re-populating itself. and i think that even if i do a repair install that these bad associations can still exist upon reboot.
