please help ...
when i go to My Computer and try to access my harddrives this message comes up
"Windows can't find "RECYCLER\S-7-4-71-100022900-100016731-2218.com’ make sure you had spelling correct..............words to that effect. I have to view my drives by opening through the address bar. any help would be gratefully received. ( my op system is Windows XP ) my anti virus is AVG free i have seen a response to a similar problem ( and i thought it was the same ..but latter i learns the numbers are different ...but i tried to do what they said ...and the problem was still their ( and after i restarted ...( its saying my avg can't connect ) ( not sure if its related ) ...( plus when i try to do system restore ...which was the first thing i tried when this problem occured ...( it sort of doesn't do anything ) ...... any help will be gratefully received ( though knowing myself ....instructions suitable for a elemetory scholl studen would probably be best ...( simple and such ...as i don't want to get confused and mess it up further if you knows what i mean ) |

Obviously you main harddrive is working if you are booting up into windows. Is there more than 1 drive on that system that you are trying to access? What happens when you try to access the C drive, the one with windows on it? It sounds like you may have a virus on there, or some of the critical system services got turned off, which could also be due to virus/malaware infection.

i has the a C drive ...and an external hard drive .....but when i try to open either of them it says ...Windows cannot find RECYCLER\S-7-4-71-100022900-100016731-2218.com’ Make sure you typed the name correcetly , and then try again ...and such to that effect ....( i then ..when going to a help chat ...( thought the problem was this http://www.symantec.com/security_res...226-99&tabid=3 ...but it turns out the numbers were different ...( and i manage to do the last two parts of step 4) ( which might of only made the problem worse ) as after i did those two steps and restarted my computer ..nows my AVG free cann't seem to update ) ...but before it also seems i am unable to even do a system restore

If I remember correctly, you tried malwarebytes with not success. Go to this link and download Trojan Remover, its only a 30 day trial but everything works during the trial period. Let me know if it finds anything after a scan. http://simplysup.com/tremover/

thanks all and such ..me got it working agian ..( though really i didn't i myself...)
turns out one of my regestary cleaner programs ( not sure which one ..on its own or if it was only compounded by having to hit the reset button during a reg clean up .....)( probably didn't help it one bit ) but apparenty the cleaner put some file folders in the wrong location which was what was keeping the fix from completely working ......and again thank and such
