Right Click on My Computer and select Properties .. from the System Properties dialog box go to the Advanced Tab > Startup & Recovery - Settings button > and click the EDIT button to edit the boot.ini manually.
In the boot.ini .. look for the
[operating systems] section .. you should see 2 lines. Remove the unwanted line completely - in your case, the second one.

Hey Statica thanks for responding ...What it is ..is there is a small partition 4 gig or so and the other is about 76 gig .. I inadvertently deleted and partitioned the wrong partition ( not sure it was me or the computer (Compaq) and it started to install I saw it was doing the small partition and stopped the install. Then repartition the larger partition and installed window XP home.

When it reboots I see two Xp home selections.... the top one is the full install and the lower is the partially installed and looking for a cd.
WHEN i GET INTO BOOT.INI i AM NOT SURE which to delete I cant remember how to read dsk, part etc.
It shows part 1 and part 2 but I can't correlate which is which and certainly don't want to delete the full install..

Do I make any sense ???

Okay...I removed the second one took a chance it was the right one ....now big questio can I format that partion ?? it still shows as C: and there is still part of the install and the partition F: is the main partion with the full install.
If I format can I change the partion F: to make it the C: partion as it should be ????

No, I think you would be best off by wiping the drive and starting over.
