Unable to install IE7
I am running Windows XP Pro 64bit edition. I'm unable to install IE7 through either Windows update or double click on an IE7 installation file I've manually downloaded. When I look into the event logs, these are the error message. I'm not sure if it's related.
Event Type: Error Event Source: DCOM Event Category: None Event ID: 10005 Date: 2/5/2009 Time: 9:56:32 PM User: N/A Computer: MYCOMPUTER Description: DCOM got error "The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. " attempting to start the service BITS with arguments "" in order to run the server: {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1090 Date: 2/5/2009 Time: 3:47:46 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: MYCOMPUTER Description: Windows couldn't log the RSoP (Resultant Set of Policies) session status. Event Type: Error Event Source: SecurityCenter Event Category: None Event ID: 1802 Date: 2/5/2009 Time: 10:09:17 PM User: N/A Computer: MYCOMPUTER Description: The description for Event ID ( 1802 ) in Source ( SecurityCenter ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: ??. Data: 0000: 0e 10 04 80 ...? Windows Management Instrumentation service is running fine. I've already tried deleting everything in %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository folder and restart the computer but still these errors and unable to install IE7. I do not run any DC. Any suggestion is appreciated. |

Have you turned off any services as part of tweaks you may have done on your system? Check out: http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...e=DCOM&phase=1 which mentions something similar to what you see for IE7.

Have you put the latest service pack on it? I believe that would be SP2 for Server 2003/XP64.

Yes, I do have the latest service pack on. I did manage to get IE7 install. However, I still kept getting the Userenv ID:1090 error message in the Application event log.
