Object not found lsass.exe

Windows XP Pro SP2 does not finish booting because it displays object not found regarding lsass.exe then when I clicked ok it reboots. I booted on safe mode w/ network first. It did not work and it still stopped and rebooted on the lsass problem. Next I did it with safe mode w/ command prompt but it still stopped at the object not found.

Since I cannot access windows and I don't have an optical drive on hand. I placed the problem hard drive on a different computer and scanned it for viruses using Kaspersky 2009 but it came clean. Next, I copied the lsass.exe of a working computer to the system32 directory of the problem drive. The problem still persists. Finally, I have a copy of the installer cd on a hard drive so I took the lsass.ex_ from it and renamed it to lsass.exe then placed it on the system32 folder. It was still a failure.

I also tested the drive as master on a different working computer as the main drive. The object not found lsass problem still occurs so I have ruled out the hardware problems sans hard drive.

On the software side, I ran out of ideas.
On the hardware side. The problem could be the hard disk.

Help.

You can't do that. The .ex_ file is compressed and it has to be expanded, not just copied and renamed.

Method 4.

If this doesn't work, do a repair reinstall, procedures are in our Tips and Tricks forum.

Unfortunately, the repair and uncompressing the .ex_ file did not work. What I did was replace the hard drive with a new one. Now it worked.
