Hello. I turned my laptop off during an update, and now it will not boot up. I have went into the BIOS and set it to boot from CD, and put the original Windows XP disc that came with the machine into the drive. It says that it will first look to a good partition on my HDD, then attempt to access it on CD. However, the "Gateway" logo appears, and says "Please wait," and never goes to CD for boot up and repair/restore mode? Am I screwed? Thank you so much for your help in advance.

I doubt he can get into safe mode if it won't even get past the splash screen.
If you turned it off because it appeared to lock up during an update and now it won't get past the splash screen, your hard drive probably died. |
