Will MS allow me to do this?

I have an old work horse Dell running 2K(love the machine). I have an old eMachine running XP. If I put Linux on the eMachine can I use the restore disk from that computer and put XP, using the COA, on the Dell?
Thanks for any replies

Nope, the coa's are dedicated to each individual machine. The total change in hardware would also cause a problem trying to activate the XP.

The reason I wondered is because I had another computer that I had a new motherboard installed. I then used the same restore disks. It was really just the old case and c-d & dvd drives. Later I had to install a new HD. I used the same disks to install XP again.

Being able to do it and being legal are two different things
