Outlook problem
Hi Gang
I am putting this here because I don't see another heading that fits this. I am sure I will be told if I am posting this in the wrong place. I have yahoo plus mail, changing to Outlook 2003 mail. Now I followed all the instructions to a T, but it will not send or receive mail. I checked the boxes to leave my e-mail in my Yahoo account for now. I was told to install Outlook by putting in my incoming mail--plus.pop.mail.yahooil.com, and my outgoing to plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com . And when I try to send some thing it throws up an error, and sits in my send folder. Any ideas. Thanx...Gunny

Hi Michael
I see what you are saying in your post to my problem. Now I have Outlook running now, sending and receiving, with a few quirks. I had to experiment with a few things like the port #'s. But it is running. Now on what you said about the "accounts", Are you saying to go into the "accounts" in Outlook or Yahoo mail.? If so there is no such thing in Yahoo mail, and Outlook. If I go into mail accounts under Outlook, it just gives me the choice of like resetting up an e-mail account, nothing like you are saying. And also Yahoo mail when you are setting it up with Outlook, you have to us ATT in there under POP3 and Smtp. Most of the outdated settings to do this don't say to use it this way, they still say to use the old pop.plus.mail.yahoo.com. It wont work this way. And for at least a little while I would like to save my e-mail in Yahoo until I get this Outlook running like it should. And you make reference to Outlook Express, I am not using that one just Outlook. I appreciate your help on this, and your time. I hope you can explain what I am doing wrong on this accounts thing. Take care.......Gunny |

Most important - is your email address a Yahoo address or is it an AT&T family address (sbcglobal, pacbell, etc.)?

Hi GLC & cmichael
My address is editedbyadmin@sbcglobal.net. When ever I go to send a message addressed to myself, (just for test purposes) in Outlook, I get this little box called Invalid Cert, and it gives me these 2 choices, of which I don't understand either of them. One says to "Get a new digital ID t use with this account. On the tools menu, click options, click the security tab, then click get a digital ID". The next one says to do this, "Use the accounts button to send the message using an account that you have certificates for". Now can some one explain what this is asking me to do in plain english. Maybe I should just scrap this install of it and start a new one. Thanx....Gunny Last edited by glc; 02-14-2009 at 01:04 PM. Reason: Posting real email address in open forum not wise |

1. If you are using AVG, uninstall it and reinstall it using a custom configuration - do not install the personal email scanner, just the Outlook plugin.
2. Here are the exact settings to use in Outlook: Incoming: pop.att.yahoo.com Outgoing: smtp.att.yahoo.com Account name: youraddress@sbcglobal.net Password = your password Outgoing server requires authentication - same settings as incoming. SSL enabled - POP3 port = 995, SMTP port = 465. Leave mail on server if you want. |

GLC.....No not using AVG. Ok I will try what you are saying to do. Just one thing I have the plus account with my Yahoo mail. It costs a extra $20 a year and it changes your e-mail page, eliminates the ads, is about it. Do I put that plus in the pop3 or SMTP boxes.

GLC did what you said I still get the Invalid cert every time I go to send a message. If I click on the one option, (change security settings) it takes me to a box and if I unclick to encrypt it, my e-mail will be sent. My questions is why do I have to uncheck this box every time I go to send a e-mail.?
Thanx...Gunny |

Are you sure you don't have "secure password authentication" checked? That is not used.
Can't help you with Yahoo Plus. The settings I gave you are strictly for sbcglobal. |

GLC.. I am positive, checked it several times to see. Strange isn't it. Maybe I should just dump it and start fresh. Like I said I don't think that plus has any thing to do with the problem.
Thanx...Gunny |

Hi All
Maybe I am missing some thing here in my explanation of this problem. When I click on to send the message, I get this "Invalid cert" box. It gives me the choice of "change security settings" or OK. I f I click on ok it does nothing just takes away the box. Now if I click on change security setting it opens another box, with one of 2 boxes to check, one that says encrypt message contents & attachments, and the other is add digital signature to the message. If I uncheck encrypt message the message gets sent. Is there any way to put in the right info so this does not keep happening. Surly there is some one that has run across this problem before, that is using the forum here. I sure would like to beat this thing. Can some one explain what a digital signature is, and how do I get one, I have heard this term before, but that is all. I have never had to get one before. Thanx...Gunny |

You have got SOMETHING checked in Outlook that shouldn't be. I don't use it enough to be able to take you right to it.

Hi All
Well late last night I decided to reinstall it and start fresh. Did that and it seemed to be working like it should now. No little boxes popping up, no errors. Installed smooth, left everything default. Now does that say I had some thing checked that I should not have, or was it a bad install.?? Trust me when you ask me some thing about the problem I answer as accurately as I can and as honest as I can. I see no point not doing either of these if I truly want to solve my problem. I just don't want you good people on here to think I am just fooling around and not serious about this. I would not waist your time or mine, on problems I am having if I havent first tried different things first and researched it to no end before I get on here and start asking questions. One small problem what setting controls the art work/pictures showing up in your e-mail, I can right click on them and they open but is there a way to have them show with out doing the right click. All the other e-mail providers I don't remember having to do this. Thanx...Take care...Gunny |
