xp pro

would like info to purchase an oem xp pro install disc, fully licensed & legit please.
all i have is the re-install disc from dell & i don't believe that would work on a new build.
i also hate the idea of having to purchase that software again, as i already have rights to it with this machine, butt if thats the only legit way then i will have to pay for it again.

info: i am planning on building a comp just for audio recording, storing, & listening.

this will be it's only function/use.

i'm partial to xp pro because i'm familiar with it & from what i've read vista doesn't play so nice with everything.
plus i'd like to install the full version of xp pro on my ole dell, to get rid of all the 'dell-ed up' configurations & see how it works. also thinking of having the bios reflashed to gain more access to it.
the audiophile build will not be for a few months or so, gotta build a budget first!
would i be better off with xp pro 64 bit for this new build?

thanks

If you're just going to use it to store, and listen to music, and I assume by record you mean rip cd's, then why not try linux. It's free.

If you want 64, then I would go with vista over xp.

If you want xp, most users wouldn't really get any extra benefit of pro over home either.

A dell install CD for the OS only works on the machine it was sold with. You can't put it on a custom build or another brand.

The Dell reinstall CD doesn't have any of the preinstalled crap on it. It's a pure generic full XP that's locked to a Dell bios. No need to buy a copy of XP to reload the Dell.

On the new build, why not just get XP Home? A generic OEM is about 90 bucks at Newegg. Pro is 140.
