I've seen that before - not a clue how to fix it other than a wipe and reinstall.

That's out of the question considering its OEM! I guess i'll just have to wait for my other computer to get fixed (screwed my gfx card lol) to install my newly bought PMDG 737!

PS. do you know why chkdsk gets stuck at 0% on stage 2?

That is indicative of some possibly serious hard drive issues or maybe some faulty ram. I'd say it's time to run Memtest86+ and hard drive diags from the manufacturer. You say OEM - if it's a Dell, press F12 on startup and run the embedded diagnostics.

Hello,
Check out my recent post "Help! Files At Risk"
If you get a "Retail" version of XP it'll have a "Repair" OS files option. Or buy a external HDD for about $90 USD and back-up your files before you wipe & reinstall. It worked for me when my PC mobo blew while it was in use.

Good Luck !

how long have you waited chkdsk? 5-10 mins seems ok, if the % doesn't change then something is wrong with your hard disk

Each HDD manufacturer has some kind of diagnostic software. Ultimate Boot Disk also has HDD diagnostics.
