Safe mode
Ok so i try to boot up in safe mode, press f2 or f5 at the startup i select 'Safe Mode' press enter, then alll this stuff comes up like C:\Windows\Drivers\ or something and it never loads??? It just stays like that. I can boot up normally though. Windows XP SP2.

I've seen that before - not a clue how to fix it other than a wipe and reinstall.

Hello,
Check out my recent post "Help! Files At Risk" If you get a "Retail" version of XP it'll have a "Repair" OS files option. Or buy a external HDD for about $90 USD and back-up your files before you wipe & reinstall. It worked for me when my PC mobo blew while it was in use. Good Luck ! |

how long have you waited chkdsk? 5-10 mins seems ok, if the % doesn't change then something is wrong with your hard disk

i don't have cd so i cant do wipe and reinstall. the CHKDSK and safe mode thing doesnt really matter atm. do u guys know of any hdd diags?

Each HDD manufacturer has some kind of diagnostic software. Ultimate Boot Disk also has HDD diagnostics.
