Task Bar too big
On my Toshiba Satellite I was running out of space on the stock 20G HD so I replaced it with a 80G, partitioned and installed XP Pro from the recovery disks, reloaded all my data and everything seem to be fine except for one thing.
The task bar is too big. Ordinarily I would be able to drag it down to normal one line size but it just refuses to budge. I can make it bigger, I can move it to the side or top. It have toggled the "lock taskbar" on and off. removed the quick launch, nothing. The system tray is two lines high with icons but it the same number as before the reinstall. Its not interferring with anything except my sence of geekness. What can I try next?

Have you tried resizing the desktop, and setting it back? You could also set it to auto hide until you get it figured out. Also; what about the inactive icons? You may also have addtional tool bars you don't need.

Reszing the desk top didnt fix it. I have it set to auto-hide and that feature works. "Hide inactive icons" is on.
Here is something tho. On my desktop (same OS) in the system tray in an arrow that allows me to "show inactive icons." On the laptop, that arrow isn't there and I dont know if it was before or not. The icons in the sys tray are: Touch pad; Power/Battery Status; Safely remove hardware; NOD32; Wireless NW connection and Intel Graphics. Plus at the moment there is an M$ update icon (SP3). So right now the system tray is 3 icons high and maybe that is why the taskbar is so big. But how to fix that. What about that item in the second paragraph? |

OK So I removed all but 3 of the icons, then turned off the clock, then closed the quick launch. At that point I was able to drag the task bar down to correct size. Then I re enabled the clock, still OK. re-enabled the QL, Still OK, Added a tool bar, and one by one added the icons back to the sys tray. Still OK. The Sys tray grew to accept the new icons but there is still no arrow to show "hidden icons"
At any rate its working and thanks for the replys. Anybody else have a Satelite 1200 and can comment on the arrow to the left of the system tray to "show hidden icons"? |
