Win XP SP3 Solution

I'm sure you have heard me complain about how it has been a night mare running SP3. Well first I found that if I disable certain features in my system (sig) like parallel port, game port, I was able to install SP3 and it would run just fine. Now to the new problem with another solution. Not long after the successful install of SP3 I decided to install Vista Home Premium on a separate physical drive. Once it was installed and all updates were installed, I found I was unable to boot back into Xp without any BSOD.

So next I unplugged Vista and was able to get back into XP and uninstall SP3, once that was done, I plug back in the drive with Vista and presto now I could access both drives again. So today I called MS support to see what they could do to get my machine to successfully boot into both operating system, one with XP Pro SP3, and the other with Vista.

First we went into the registry, from there we checked to see if the Intelppm value was listed in the registry, and naturally it wasn't as this is a AMD system not a Intel one. So I closed down the registry and opened up IE. In the address bar I typed intelppm.notlong.com (no http or www) installed the Intelppm value into the registry. Next I typed in xpservicepack3.notlong.com again (no http, www). From there it brought me to MS site for manually downloading SP3. I saved it to the desktop, once it was downloaded I installed. After that I rebooted, and was able to get into XP or Vista with no further issues.

The tech told me that my CPU AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ Toledo has a known issues with SP3. So if anyone with this processor or any other AMD setup that is having a issue you might want to try this method to solve the problem..

Off topic: notlong.com is like another tinyURL service. http is still used when visited in the browser. www is not because it's already it's own subdomain.
