Pissed boot failure

Hi I have a pc hp p4 512 ram tower. Was working fine for several years till yesterday. I know a bit about pcs but not alot. I know it is a boot problem, but I do not know why. It starts off fine and gets past the bios, but as soon as it starts looking for devices to boot of it restarts itself. Then its back to the bios. Everytime it tries to boot it re starts! I can get in the bios just fine and edit bios boot options etc. No matter what device I choose to boot from , it restarts itself when trying to boot, and there I am. I had a laptop that had that same problem and ended selling it for parts. Thought maybe this time I would try to get an answer. Maybe some one in here might know or have some idea.

Defective ram or hard drive, most likely.

It might be possible MBR (master boot record) corruption. Try to repair windows for XP disk. Boot with XP disk and go to recovery console > now type command Fix mbr.

download ultimate boot cd, burn, and run diagnostics on hard drive and do mem test.
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

or simply put in different working memory (if you have spare ones) and see if that takes care of it.
