Problem w/ XP & Dell PPO7L laptop

A friend brought her Dell laptop (model #PPO7L) by to see if I could fix it. The OS, WinXP Home, will not let her past the password stage anymore.

She gave permission to wipe & reload the OS if necessary. Is it possible to wipe the drive, reformat & reload WinXP on this laptop ?

If so how would I do it? I'm familiar with working on HDD's in desktops but not with laptops. In fact I don't even know how to access this particular HDD.

More important, is there a way to get around the password sign-in feature in order to reset the password ?

I would appreciate ANY help at all!!

THX,

CI

You might want to try the recovery partition to restore the laptop to how it was when purchased.

How would I do that ?

You can turn the machine on but once it gets to where you need a password to enter, thats as far as you can go. It will not accept the password that it was set up for.
