Windows crash in XP

I am a new user. I have a crashed XP that gives the "miniNT" or "i386" options at restart, but in contrast to an earlier thread, I am trying to save my daughter's photos on the hard drive. Other options?

Remove the hard drive, connect it to another computer and see if you can copy the files to the other computer.

Either you can try to repair XP, form XP bootable disk. Boot system with XP Disk, prees "R" when setup says. Do not worry about data, your data will be not gone. Keep it in your mind do not choose any format option.
